Hôtel du Dragon

Hôtel du Dragon was a serendipitous discovery. Walking along the narrow rue du Dragon this spring, I noticed a partially shaded window at street level, with very contented people sitting on the other side.

Once inside, I understood why: the foyer has a welcoming, relaxed vibe, with traditional wood beams and upholstered furniture, soft lighting, and a friendly staff. Upstairs, the 29 rooms are simple and spacious (my favorites look onto the quiet street); each has a newly renovated private bath.

There is a patio, a piano room, and lots to discover in the Saint Germain-des-Près neighborhood. One drawback (for some) is that there is no elevator. These aren’t luxury accommodations, but the location, size and price (128 euros for a double) make it an excellent value.
